The Marietta Council of Garden Clubs, Inc. and The North Georgia State Fair Association in cooperation with the Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. and National Council of State Garden Clubs, Inc. will present two standard flower shows "Appreciating the Arts". The Exhibit Hall on the fairgrounds will be filled with sights and smells of colorful, fragrant flower displays.

The categories of competition include roses, dahlias, orchids, cacti, lilies, marigolds, asters, impatiens, daisies, herbs, shrubs, tress, chrysanthemums, hanging plants, fruit plants, and more; as well as design categories.  Instead of a single bloom or plant, the design categories encourage creativity in designing displays with natural and floral ingredients. Our flower shows draw competitors and nationally-accredited judges from throughout metro Atlanta, so this should be an exceptionally exciting year.

Show rules follow preset guidelines established by the National Garden Clubs, Inc. The competition is open to gardeners of all ages. The flower show rules are listed in the North Georgia State Fair Premium Catalog located at Jim R. Miller Park Event Center.

Non-Commercial Guidelines

The 1955 Cobb County Fair Premium catalogue stated - "The real purpose of the fair is to bring together for display, the best livestock, agriculture and home products made and grown the county." Today, the fair is known as the North Georgia State Fair, livestock and agriculture have almost become things of the past but the artistic and gardening talents of area residents will still be presented in the non-commercial exhibits at the 2023 Fair.

Non-commercial competitive divisions include needlework, sewing, and handicrafts which include jewelry, toys and woodworking.  Creative arts such as basketry, an expanded photography division, oil painting, watercolors and other media as well as ceramics woodcarving and sculpture are displayed along with food products in the agriculture/horticulture area. Food preservation, canning, drying and preserving vie for honors along with baked goods by entrants of all ages. The popular Christmas corner continues to grow and an expanded quilting division promises added incentives for quilters.

The reinstatement of cash awards, as well as traditional premium ribbons, in the new century is expected to increase participation and enhance the competitive spirit in entrants of all ages.
